Konkola Stadium is located in Zambias Copperbelt Province town of Chililabomwe.

Konkola Stadium has one Unique Feature that is breathtaking.

The Stadium is dug into the ground and the pitch is below Ground level.

The Stadium was built in the 1950s as a special Design to signify the depth of Nchanga Open Pit mine which is the 2nd Largest Open Pit Mine in the World.

Nchanga Open Pit Mine is run and operated by Konkola Copper Mines whose head offices are in Chingola.

The Stadium is located were there once were Hills and a stream passing in between the hills.

The grass and vegetation round the stadium that grows easily is credited to the presence of water under the ground which is attributed to the stream that was removed.

Tons of earth was dug up and moved to make way for the Stadium.

As You Approach the Stadium You are Met with Huge Trees which go round the entire Stadium, the Trees are to Signify the Harmony between Nature and Mining.

Entering the Stadium you gain a birds eye view of the pitch from above making it one of the few grounds in the World were this can be done.

The Pitch is said to be about 50 Feet ( 15 Meters) below ground level. Making it the 4th deepest pitch in the World after the AT and T Stadium of the Dallas Cowboys, Olympic Stadium in Berlin Germany and the Hrazan Stadium in Armenia.

Another notable Stadium is Braga Stadium in Portugal which is actually built with one side in a hill.

Konkola Stadium has a Capacity of 25,000 and is the home of KCM sponsored ZSL sides Konkola Blades and KMP.

Between 2002 and 2011 the Zambia National Team played their International Home matches from the Stadium.

Konkola which needs an upgrade will most likely get a facelift as Zambia bids to host AFCON 2019 and it is suggested that it will be used as a Training Ground for visiting teams.
